Job Role:

Database Administrators (DBA’s) determine ways to organize, store data and work with database management systems software. They identify user requirements, test and setup databases and coordinate modifications to the systems.

Because many databases are connected to the Internet, database administrators also must plan and coordinate security measures with network administrators. With the growing volume of sensitive data and the increasing interconnectedness of computer networks, database security have become increasingly important aspects of the job of database administrators.

Responsibilities include:

Database Administrators should posess good problem-solving and analytical skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of technical and non-technical staff.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2008-09, the database administrator occupation is expected to grow 37 percent from 2006 to 2016, much faster than average for all occupations.
